This ethnographical exploration of the lives of the Huli people of Papua New Guinea focuses on women whose lives fall outside established family structure. "Passenger women" have multiple roles associated with concepts of kinship, bride wealth, marriage, sex work, financial exchange, family responsibility, and independence.
