This dense and carefully researched study of sex work in Southeast Asia explodes or modifies many popular stereotypes about prostitutes, their clients and the organisation of the industry.  Male and female sex tourism often targets Southeast Asia and case material from Bangkok, Bali and elsewhere is quoted as well as intensive field study done in Cebu.  Community, governmental and peer approaches to HIV/AIDS are discussed and the views of women sex workers themselves are highlighted. New styles of discourse are suggested.
