The poems in Mirrored Mirages are from two earlier published collections - Pillow Your Dreams (1978) and The Fragmented Ego (1978). This volume is divided into seven sections and the poems are arranged according to the year in which they were written. In the first four sections, the central concern is the persona's struggle with male domination. The inspiration for the poems in the next three sections is the challenges posed by living in a city. All references to the poet's personal predicament are illustrative of a wider concern with gender issues, while the preface gives an account of the development of poetry in Singapore in the fifties.
