Language Choices and Discourse of Malaysian Families: Case Studies of Families in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Based on work done in the faculty of Language and Linguistics at the University of Malaya, these nine essays use much case material in the discussion of language usage in the homes of different Malaysian ethnic groups. Field study, which showed a general shift to English, was done with communities of Sindhi-Hindus, Tamil Brahmins, Malaysian Bengalis, families where Malaysian English is the first language and families of two ethnicities. The second part records and discusses family discourse and interaction strategies in two and three generational families.With reading lists and indexed.
