Of recent years, Indonesia's television channels adopt Muslim themes during Ramadan and the ever-popular soap operas then promote Muslim themes and teachings. After background discussion of the TV industry and of religious trends which are influencing the place of women, the stories of women in two of the popular serial films are highlighted. Some recent changes in dress and attitude are seen to be related to these and similar media events. References list.
