This study of the ancient port agglomerate Gresik-Surabaya on the Java coast includes black-and-white aerial views, line drawings of old maps, and black-and-white contemporary photographs. Part 1 deals with the port's history to 1970. Part 2 is an account of the marine craft of the area and of the organisation of and trade in local shipping. With black-and-white photographs 1970-2007, an account of the 1945-49 revolutionary events in the area, notes on the 1815 British "conquest" of Java, and bibliography. Written in French.
