A referenced discussion of the processes and implications of the fundamental and all-pervading changes which, in the last two decades of the 20th century, have globalized the Asia-Pacific and transformed so much of society and the environment. The experience of primary and secondary cities in the region and evidence from economic and ecological research inform the analysis of the economic and social situation both before and after the 1997 economic crisis.
