The author, born in 1961 in Cambodia, lived as a refugee from 1976 in Thailand and then the US, where he is now an established landscape architect and family man. Yimsut tells how until recently, he largely repressed any thought about the atrocities and horrific experiences of his family and himself in Cambodia and the considerable difficulties he experienced as an immigrant in America. After bringing his only surviving family members to the US and himself revisiting a changed but still problem-ridden Cambodia, he has felt able to write this detailed account of inhumanity and genocide often beyond belief. With family tree, chronology, a thoughtful epilogue on ECCC, and other contemporary policies in Cambodia, glossary and index.
