Emperor's Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City. This account with some 300 illustrations of the Qianlong Garden in Beijing's Forbidden City (Palace Museum) is published to complement the ongoing exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum. Ninety artefacts which have never before left Beijing are illustrated. These include screens, furnishings and paintings chosen by or for the Emperor who ruled 1732-95.
