These 14 separately referenced specialist papers were given at the 2005 Bangkok conference "Sexualities, Fenders and Right in Asia" -  the first international conference on Asian queer studies. In recent years there has been a considerable amount of research in which Asian perspectives have been considered in and applied to queer studies. The ideas and multifaceted situations explored have been drawn from different social contexts and media presentations in Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, New Zealand, Philippines, Korea, Taiwan and Australia. The introduction gives overviews of the basic trends in LGBT recognition in Asia and throughout the book findings of ground-breaking research are discussed. Index.
