Prof Zakaria Ali of Universiti Sains Penang wrote a column on local literature in the New Straits Times from 1996 to 2002. Most of his contributions from that period are collected in this volume. The articles explore, discuss and criticize recent plays, poems, short stories, novels, memoirs and other Malaysian writings in Malay or English.
