A. A. Mad�� Djelantik (b. 1919), son of the Raja of Karangasem, grew up in feudal times and experienced the sweep of changes that took place in Bali, from Dutch colonisation to independence and modernisation. He was educated abroad and went to medical school at the University of Amsterdam. A distinguished physician, medical educator and patron of Balinese culture, he is well loved in Bali. This book is an unusual compilation of his watercolour paintings (done after his retirement in 1999), rich legends and stories interwoven with personal memories of Balinese traditions. The stories are presented by Italian Idanna Pucci. Bilingual in English and Indonesian.
