These four stimulating papers are from the March 2012 Singapore seminar of the Centre for Research on Islamic and Malay Affairs which explored some of the often-sensitive issues associated with insensitive approaches to racial/religious issues in online discussion in Singapore. Recent cases of state prosecution and/or public emotion are cited in the papers which range widely. Among the matters addressed are: the nature of the State's responsibilities; legal provisions; entertainment patterns and hip-hop culture; personal and minority identities, rights and protection; and limits to tolerance. The questions raised at the seminary show there are no easy solutions for Singapore.
