Interviews between the notable Princeton anthropologist Hildred Geertz & Balinese artist Ida Bagus Made Togog (1913-1989) create this insider's view of Bali's life and art, and of the thinking and methods of one of its painters. The interviews took place 1982-1987 and were later complemented by insights given by the artist's son. The result is an unusual and detailed presentation of a Balinese point of view - an aspect of the popular "Paradise Holiday Island" often ignored by outsiders of all nationalities.
