Reissue of the 1972 Cornell translation of the 1960 memoirs of T.B. Simatupang, a member and later General in the Indonesian army. He deals with his own experiences mainly in the Dec 1948-July 1949 "second war of Independence", the climax of Indonesia's Revolution. He was then Deputy Chief of Staff under General Sudirman and also involved with Pemuda, the "people's army". Insights are given into guerrilla warfare, the intermingled idealism, violence and confusions of the time and also the negotiating of the Rum-van Royen agreement of April 1949 and the Hague Round Table Agreement of October 1949.
