Hunters & Collectors: The Origins Of The Southeast Asian Collection At The Asian Civilisations Museum. The first chapter discusses the "Hunter-Collectors" of the 19th and early 20th century who as professionals or amateurs collected information and artefacts on indigenous people. Some of these collections were in the Old Raffles Museum and are now being displayed at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore. Information and biographical sketches are given for six collectors: the American William Louis Abbott (1860-1936); Italian Giovanni Battista Cerruti (1850-1914); British Gerald Brousseau Gardner (1884-1964); British Archdeacon Arthur Frederick Sharp (1866-1960); German Edward Richard Jacobson (1870-1944); and British Tom Harnett Harrisson (1911-1976). With bibliography and many photographs.
