Cold War Southeast Asia
by Murfett, Malcolm H. (Ed.)
About This Book
Ripples set up by the post-World War II "Cold War" did of course spread throughout Southeast Asia. Largely based on public lectures given in Singapore 2008/09, eleven specialists explore ramifications of the complicated interplay of US, USSR, Communist Party and nationalist interests and perceptions in Southeast Asia mainly in the 1950s and 60s. Attention is paid to the different situations and policies in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Laos and Indonesia and various formerly secret aspects of the interplay and interventions are discussed. The final paper is an overall hindsight review of local and global legacies of the Cold War activities. Bibliography and index.
