This account and discussion of Allied POWs in Singapore and Malaya is based on the experiences of British POW Hugh Pilkington, whose memoirs were written in 1945 before he had been repatriated to his home in Britain. This record, which includes his suffering as a bedridden patient in Alexandra Military Hospital during the 1942 massacre and as slave on the Thai-Burma railway, is complemented by on-site observations and interviews by Pilkington's son some 60 years later.
