Population Movements And The Threat Of Hiv/Aids Virus At The Bangladesh-India Border (Rsis Mono. No. 14)
by Mohammad Jalal Uddin Sikder
About This Book
This monograph extends the notion of securitisation in exploring and framing the concerns over the spread of HIV/AIDS. It claims that concerns over the spread of HIV/AIDS along territorial border regions constitute a human or non-traditional security threat that demands urgent and sustained policy attention. In this light, this monograph examines the socio-economic status of people living near the borders between Bangladesh and India. By uncovering the realities that explain the nature of cross-border migration and sexual behaviour/habits of the migrants, this monograph seeks to understand to what extent these activities have an effect on their level of socio-economic development. Eleven case studies are provided and policy recommendations are made for the state and NGOs.
