About This Book
Balinese is the regional language of Bali and West Lombok in Indonesia, and is distinct from the national language. Balinese is spoken by all layers of Balinese society and it is also the vehicle of the famous culture of Bali.
The author, the late Father Norbert Shadeg (d. 2006) compiled this dictionary by combining all the available sources (going back to the time of Raffles) with his own extensive knowledge of the language, which was gained during the many years he had lived and worked in Bali. This dictionary, with its 25000 entries, covers a wide range of vocabulary and includes many colourful idioms.
