About This Book
The durian, the strong smelling fruit which often inspires equally strong emotions, grows well in the rich soil of Penang Island on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. This small book celebrates the durian and our love for it.
There are three main sections in this book. The first section discusses the appeal of the durian, what the fruit means to Penang, a step-by-step guide to selecting and buying durians, and some recipes that feature the durian. The second section gives botanical information on the durian. Favourite varieties of durians are identified; there is an index of durian vendors and for the truly enamoured, a simple map and suggested route for visiting durian farms. The last section features frequently asked questions that debunk myths about Southeast Asia's "king of fruits".
