Arvn: Life And Death In The South Vietnamese Army
by Brigham, Robert K.
About This Book
The 1955 birth of the Republic of Vietnam gave rise to the country's conscripted army, the APVN, which has often been maligned, or scapegoated in many American accounts of the 1961-71 Vietnam War. This in-depth history of the ARVN 1955-75 makes use of interviews, diaries and memoirs as well as military and other records. It becomes clear how American-enforced recruitment, poor training, inadequate provisioning and conflicting family loyalties resulted in a sometimes heroic but largely demoralized and confused force.
With bibliography, black-and-white photographs, and index.
