Ganesa: The Remover Of Obstacles
by Nagar, Shantilal
About This Book
This book offers an exploration of the elephant-headed god, Ganesa, who is thought to be auspicious and is well loved by all Hindus.
This study begins with the story of the birth of Ganesa, before proceeding to examine the many other manifestations of the deity and the other names by which he is also called. Although known to be the Remover of Obstacles, Ganesa also performs other duties, and these are noted in a chapter. In a separate chapter, places that are sacred to Ganesa are listed and briefly explained, as is the role of Ganesa in the art and culture of other places outside India in a chapter called Ganesa Abroad. Following this, the vratas, or religious obligations, of Ganesa worship are laid out. The last two chapters cover respectively the beginnings of Ganesa worship and the ways and requirements for performing this worship.
