These six separately referenced papers are based on those given at the 2001 ANU conference "Migratory Identities and Ethnic Minorities in the Chinese Diaspora". The papers highlight the situation of four groups of non-Han Chinese migrants: the Hmong; Peranankan Chinese in 19th and 20th-century Batavia; Chinese Mestizos of the Philippines; and Russians from the Harbin area of China.
