Based on doctoral research this systematic monograph describes the beliefs and practices of healers of different traditions who have important roles in Sabah society. Long-held folk beliefs are discussed and related to Koranic teaching. Individual healers describe their methods and specialisms: traditional concepts and rituals are interpreted for the modern reader and tabulated data present diagnostics, remedies and plants used, and the needs of fifty patients. Chants and relevant sayings are translated.
This study appears to owe much to the deep knowledge and insights of the author and his father who was a traditional healer. With glossary and bibliography.
