Railway Man, The
by Lomax, Eric
About This Book
This is a pocketbook edition of the remarkable 1995 account of his life by Eric Lomax (b.1919). From Post Office clerk in Scotland to Signals Officer sent to Malaya in 1941; from POW in Singapore to the "Siam Railway", and then from tortured prisoner of the Kempetai to civil service posts in Scotland and Ghana. Haunted and unsettled in civilian life, Lomax finally made contact with his Kempetai torturer and he tells of their 1993 meetings in Thailand and Japan. Many significant issues are raised by this account of human courage, cruelty, destruction and survival.
