This book, with black and white sketches and photographs, distills the professional wisdom and ideas of the Cambodian Paris-trained architect Vann Molyvann. During a multi-faceted career he has been architect of many of Cambodia's monuments and public buildings an influential force in higher education, founder-Director of APSARA the Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor, and an innovative long-term urban planner inside and outside Cambodia. The introduction overviews land use, settlement, and the development of cities. Chapter 1 looks at the Angkor region and its history, geology, zoning and present and future development. Chapter 2 is on the rapidly expanding city of Phnom Penh and its context and the constraints on its development. Chapter 3 focuses on the new planned port city of Sihanoukville.
