About This Book
In Chinese. Huang Tzun-hsien was the first Chinese Consul-General in Singapore from Nov 1891 to Nov 1894. During his tenure, other than actively discharging his official duties, he put in a lot of effort to promote culture and education in the local Chinese community. He organized monthly region-wide competitions in couplet and essay writing on topics pertaining to Nanyang or Southeast Asia. These activities, particularly the essay competitions, attracted hundreds of participants from Singapore, Malacca and Penang.
