The Yao, a non-Chinese minority thought to be originally from the Yangtze Basin, are now settled mainly in agricultural communities in Southwest China, North Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. The 650 photographs in this volume illustrate activities, religion, costumes and artifacts of the two main branches of the Yao, the Mien and the Mun peoples, and their sub-branches.
