For two years, between 1966 and 1968, the anthropologist and author, Stuart Schlegel, lived with the Teduray forest people of Figel in South-west Mindanao. His Tuduray hosts were all wiped out in ethnic conflict in the early 1970s. Schlegel writes simply of the Tuduray's culture and details their hunting, gathering and swidden way of life. He tells too of the lessons he and his family learned and how their holistic value system affected his work at the University of California and finally led him back to his original work as a Christian priest.
