A substantial and scholarly study of the Nage village people of the area of Central Flores, East Indonesia dominated by the still-active volcano Ebu Lobo. Based on fieldwork done in the 1980s and early 1990s, the work highlights the nature and significance of Nage relations with the spirit world and their rituals and symbolic artefacts, many of which concern the buffalo.
