About Select Books

SELECT BOOKS is an independent bookshop in Singapore specializing in Southeast Asian titles. It was set up in 1976 by a small group of friends consisting of a librarian, an architect, a journalist and an academic. We shared one common interest - a love of books - and one common vision - to make available a wide variety of publications on Southeast Asia to a wider audience. We also sought to promote books written by Southeast Asians. Over the years, we sourced extensively for publications and have built up a comprehensive and in-depth collection of books and journals relating to the region.

Besides our retail business, SELECT also distributes certain titles. We are also in publishing (please refer to our list of titles under Published by Select). We supply to libraries all over the world, and we represent various international organizations and regional agencies

Over the past 22 years, we have been compiling a new titles list called Selections for customers on our mailing list. Occasionally, we put out special subject lists, for example: Selections on the Chinese in Southeast Asian, on Art, on Architecture, and on Southeast Asian Literature. To our many friends who have supported and encouraged us over the years, we say "Thank you." You have been very special, and you enabled us to keep going.
